A stunningly furnished cafe that provides the best specialty coffees from across the world is a modern design wonder.
In most situations, the hotel where I’m staying definitely doesn’t have either specialty coffee, a skilled barista, or both, so when I’m visiting a new city, I normally head straight for the closest specialty coffee shop.
Unless you reside on Malaysia’s Penang Island. Not providing the greatest coffee is a huge opportunity lost, but fortunately, some cafés, including THE MAKER, are finally realising this.
THE MAKER on Penang Island is a fantastic illustration of a recent establishment that has made specialty coffee its central focus. I had been following this prior to my visit last week
A fantastic location, in my accurate view, considering that until recently doesn’t have much in the way of speciality coffee in this area of Georgetown.
The inside is huge and well-lit by a lot of daylight that enters through both sides. This location has a more laid-back ambiance than that of the other café, which can often feels pretty cosy. The counter area is split into two parts: an upscale espresso bar with an Artisan coffee maker, and a retail counter bar with a scrumptious array of the day’s croissants and pastries on display.
THE MAKER’s barista explained how this location is designed to be an evolution of the first cafe as he made a cappuccino for a customer who had purchased the final almond bun. So was difficult to express a new vision for the organisation during the pandemic, so we wanted a location to do it, he said.
